Right Wind Cone Garage Door Spring

There is a lot of confusion among people regarding right hand winding torsion spring and left hand winding torsion spring.

In most cases you can determine the wind of your garage door torsion spring by using the color coded system on the cones at the end of the spring. Most standard residential torsion systems have two torsion springs one on the right and left. Thus they have their end of wire on the right side.

The right hand winding springs are wound in a clockwise direction. If one spring is broken on your torsion system we highly recommend replacing both springs. To the right of the drum is the right wind torsion spring. With torsion springs the color code demonstrated whether the spring is a right wind or a left wind usually black represents a right wind while the red color represents a left wind garage door spring.

When it comes to torsion springs the color coding works a bit differently. As for the torsion springs this system applies a little differently. Press the spring into the mouth of the jaws of the wrench with your thumb and rest the other end of the wrench on the top of the door. The left hand wound black winding cone will be mounted w the black winding cone pointing towards the right.

On the contrary it is very simple to determine the winding type of a garage door spring. The color code on a torsion spring indicates whether it is a right wind or left wind spring with black indicating right wind and red indicating left wind. Another reason to install a four spring system a second reason for installing four springs is if it needs an additional lift as a result of the door not having the correct springs. The left spring is right hand wound rhw and the right spring is left hand wound lhw. Next pull down on the winding cone with a winding bar. Continue reinserting the bar and pulling down on the winding cone until the cone is all the way at the end of the spring.
